Overview
Knowledgeable and efficient, drawing on years of experience in publishing and translation - including scholarly articles and books for university presses in the US and Europe, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Vanderbilt, and North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For nearly twenty years, I was the main English translator for a corporate publishing program in Brazil that produced numerous works on Brazilian art and history. My most recent book translation is Peasant rebellion in a slave society : the Balaiada in Maranhão, Brazil, 1800-1850 by Matthias Röhrig Assunção, a Routledge publication due out this year (2024).
I have been bilingual in English and Spanish since childhood (I was raised in Puerto Rico), and speak fluent, native-level Brazilian Portuguese, having first learned it at UCLA and improved it over the course of 28 years in Brazil. I am now based in the UK, but continue working for translation clients in the UK, Europe, the US, and Brazil. Thorough knowledge of the history and cultures of Brazil, the US and the UK enables me to contribute valuable insights. As a result, I am qualified to provide constructive feedback. I am particularly experienced in working with fellow scholars.
