Hamzah Hussain – Editor

Crime and literary fiction editor specialising in developmental edits for Amazon best-sellers

Overview

I am a seasoned editor with years of experience helping editors polish their manuscripts so that it's ready for an agency, publisher, or even publication.

I have a varied background in the industry from small, independent publishers such as Saraband and Peepal Tree Press, to some of the biggest imprints in the country at Hachette UK,

I've brought many titles into publication such as Patrica Gibney, Rahul Raina, Merryn Allingham and more!

My expertise lies in helping aspiring authors develop their overall manuscripts including structure, pacing, characters, and dialogue.

If there is an issue in your book that's niggling away at you, that you just can't work out then I'm the editor for you. I can assess, diagnose and treat your book to ensure it's fit to be in front of an agent or publishing house, and even published!

With years of experience in the industry, and as an avid reader myself, I have a strong grasp of market trends, and how to ensure your book will work with readers.

All my edits are detailed and in depth. All my projects get the same care and attention, no matter if it's a proofread or a developmental edit.

I am particularly passionate about crime fiction and thrillers, so send me your jaw-dropping, twisty books!

I edited several titles across various commercial genres including crime fiction, historical fiction, and women's fiction. I proofread titles meticulously to make them ready for publishing.

I also read submitted manuscripts and provided detailed feedback to authors and literary agents.

During this traineeship I did the structural and developmental edits on many literary titles including 'How to Kidnap the Rich' by Rahul Raina, 'Surrogate' by Susan Spindler, and 'Cold Sun' by Anita Sivakumaran.

Saraband

Jul, 2019 — Jul, 2019 (less than a minute)

I edited and proofread various titles including 'The Boxing Diaries' by Marion Dunn and 'Miss Blaine's Prefect and the Vampire Menace' by Olga Wojtas.

Peepal Tree Press

I proof read and edited several manuscripts, preparing them for publication. This included the poetry collection 'Road Trip' by Marvin Thompson, for which I also designed the cover.

This is my first time writing a book and my first time using Reedsy. Both were a good experience and still remain so. Reedsy and My writing are still together, a good encouraging company. Hamzah the development editor was nothing but professional offering good advice and sound judgement. Always there at the end of the phone when you needed sage advice or just simply encouragement. Working with Hamzah on my book has been a very rewarding experience. He has drawn my attention to things I can improve in my current draft, while always being extremely kind and supportive in his criticism. His comments have given me a very good outline of where to focus on as I'm going into the next edit, and I would love to work with him again.
