Chonise Bass

Chonise Bass – Editor

Freelance copyeditor with in-house publishing experience, an MS in Strategic Communication, and a heavy reliance on the Oxford comma.

Overview

Not sure what to do with comma splices? Confused about paragraph organization? I can handle and help weed out anything that feels or seems unnecessary. My edits (outside of general grammar mistakes) are advisory, and the entire process will hopefully feel like a conversation between us and the text.

I have reviewed manuscripts, dissertations, short story collections, memoirs, and drafts of all shapes and genres for the last eight years. Working with editorial teams at Soho Press, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, WW Norton, and 37Ink provided experience bringing countless books to life, and allowed me to work with authors regularly. I am currently at Simon & Schuster, so I have a bevy of media insights and know what the greater public is interested in. I also have a Masters in Strategic Communication in my back pocket, so words of affirmation are my strong suit. That being said, I look forward to reading your next bestseller!

"To my editor, Chonise, you effortlessly caught the vision and direction for this work and made my manuscript sing! Thank you for moving, shifting, deleting, and challenging me."

-Kim Bright, author of Something Borrowed, Something Blue
