Paying and communicating through Reedsy helps ensure that clients and professionals are protected in case of a dispute. In particular, it allows authors to benefit from our Project Protection policy. Paying outside the Reedsy system exposes you to risks, and we can’t provide access to these benefits when transactions aren’t paid for directly through Reedsy.
We’ve also built safeguards into Reedsy to help keep your information secure, and we're constantly improving on those safeguards. If you make a payment or communicate outside Reedsy, you’ll forego these security benefits and put yourself at greater risk of fraud and other security issues, such as phishing.
Our payment and messaging systems keep things simple.
We designed our payment system to give everyone peace of mind. When a client pays through Reedsy, payments go through Stripe, a payment system that works like an escrow account and guarantees a secure transaction.
Messaging on Reedsy also makes it easy to find and reference important details about your collaboration so the Reedsy team can help in case of a dispute. When you use Reedsy's messaging system, you also benefit from built-in security features that help keep your work and intellectual property safe.
Please note that in the event of a dispute, we will only be able to consider communications and files sent via the Reedsy messaging system. Messages, files, and payment receipts shared outside the Reedsy/Stripe program will not be reviewed by our mediators, which means we can't step in to help if you've taken even a portion of the project off-site.
Let us know if someone tries to get you to pay outside Reedsy.
Never pay for services contracted through Reedsy outside our website. If a service provider encourages you to take payments or communications off-site, that violates our terms. You will not be covered by our Protection Policy, you will be liable to pay the Introduction Fee, and you will likely have your account closed.
We have worked hard to ensure the professionals represented on Reedsy are honest, fair, and legitimate, and we can not risk our site's reputation by allowing rule-breakers to maintain a presence here. So if you're asked to take payments or communication off-site, or you think someone might be sending you links to a fake Reedsy webpage, email us at service@reedsy.com or use the "Help!" button at the top of this page. We'll help you find a new provider you can trust.
