Elise Ramsbottom

Elise Ramsbottom – Editor

Hyper-detailed copy editor and proofreader specializing in highly illustrated non-fiction books (cookbooks, travel tomes, etc.)

Overview

I am an Associate Editor, most recently at Workman Publishing in NYC. They publish non-fiction lifestyle books and cookbooks. My daily tasks included everything from editing my own books to assisting editors on theirs to helping review book passes with our production department. One of the most recent books I worked on was a re-packaging of the wildly successful 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz. I have a sharp eye for errors and am a quick reader; I was often the last person to read books before they went to the printer because I was trusted to catch small, residual mistakes.

Those tiny mistakes are a big deal though when you've spent months (or years) finessing your work. You've done the nitty gritty work with a developmental editor and you're ready to send your manuscript to an agent or publish it . . . the last thing you want is for people to focus on a misspelled word or an ill-placed comma. That's where I come in. I will work meticulously and tirelessly to catch every error in your book, including that pesky extra space that somehow floated in there. Whether you're a grammar savant or couldn't tell the difference between a semi-colon and a colon, I will meet you there. I am happy to explain my decisions and always provide a style sheet for clarity.

I look forward to working with you!
