Dorothy Chambers

Dorothy Chambers – Editor

A meticulous, empathetic copyeditor/proofreader. Have worked with authors on 50+ manuscripts, especially biographies, YA, and middle grade.

Overview

I'm a copyeditor and proofreader with more than ten years' experience editing many genres in fiction (fantasy, historical fiction, YA, picture books, and early readers) and nonfiction (biographies, cookbooks, academic essays, and personal health/fitness). I've even written and edited content for exhibitions at a Holocaust museum. The Chicago Manual of Style is my primary guide, though I also use AP.

As a copyeditor at Tanglewood Publishing, I focused on Young Adult fiction, books for middle readers, and picture books. I worked with author Mike Mullin, whose award-winning dystopian ASHFALL series should make us all wary of the potential eruption of Yellowstone's supervolcano. I was also proud to copyedit SURVIVING THE ANGEL OF DEATH, the biography of Auschwitz death camp survivor Eva Kor, whose story of perseverance and healing has touched the lives of millions of people around the world.

In addition to Eva Kor's biography, I have edited other Holocaust-related literature and materials. Sharing the stories of survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides is especially important to me.

During my years at Wish Publishing, I focused my editing skills on works of nonfiction, polishing diverse manuscripts on fitness and exercise, and on people and places of local interest in the Midwest.

I enjoy collaborating with veteran authors as well as those working on their first manuscript. I am a thoughtful editor with a keen sense of a writer's voice. I believe each project has the potential to expand our understanding and inspire imagination. I look forward to working with you.

Although I thought my final draft was blemish-free before submitting it for proofreading, Dorothy found numerous typos and other issues with syntax and occasional line editing. Dorothy was always kind, clear and professional and offered insights regarding consistency in prose that substantially lifted my manuscript. Dorothy was a real pro and an absolute pleasure to work with.
