Christopher Cooper

Christopher Cooper – Editor

Experienced magazine and book editor specialising in science fiction and fantasy projects. If you're lost in space, I'll hear you scream.

Overview

I'm a friendly and constructive editor who is always looking for new opportunities to stretch myself and work with interesting people on cool ideas.

If you're seeking an experienced publishing professional with a flair for telling fun and engaging stories, real or imaginary (they don't have to be set in space, even if that does seem to be my MO), please get in touch.

I'm currently focused on short stories, comic book scripts, and screenplays, although will consider longer projects.

Editorial Skills:

•Generating creative ideas and concepts for magazines, books, and comics, including developing a short fiction strand for Star Wars Insider magazine.

•Working with writers, designers, and artists to refine concepts and advise on style and structure.

•Commissioning, copy-editing, proof reading, writing feature articles and conducting interviews, writing promotional and marketing material with relevant team members.

•Managing multiple projects on-schedule and within budget.

•Liaising with licensors to refine manuscripts and implement changes where necessary, including Lucasfilm, Disney, Dreamworks, and CBS/Paramount,

In addition to my editorial experience, I also have extensive writing experience, from which I have gained valuable insight into the creative process of storytelling and bringing ideas to the page, pitching compelling story ideas to publishers and developing those ideas into full outlines and completed manuscripts. Clients have included: Big Finish Productions; Titan Comics; Immediate Media; Penguin/Random House.

Chris was really great to work with. We were able to start collaborating ahead of schedule and his feedback documents were exactly what I was looking for. They were detailed, descriptive and shed some light on exactly where my piece was lacking. Sooooo much better than asking a friend to review and getting back "It was great." What I really needed was somebody to honestly point out my weak poin...

Lucky to have found Chris. He brought both energy and a sharp critical eye to my project. He really helped me bring clarity to my storytelling. He has a great ear for prose and dialog, was able to identify the weakness in my work. Equally willing to call out what worked and what didn't work. Direct, clear and unflinching. A real pro.

Thanks. For my part, it was a pleasure to contribute to such an engaging and imaginative story. A hugely enjoyable experience.

A+. I had a great experience working with Chris. His insights into the strengths and weaknesses of my story telling were on-point and super helpful. His comments and suggestions concerning my use of language were both clear and detailed and, in nearly all cases, made my piece much stronger and more effective. I assumed an editor would just circle the sentences where I'd use the passive voice, s...
