Brian Wilkins

Brian Wilkins – Editor

Editor of poetry, screenplays, and children’s books with a surreal spin

Overview

I am a writer, teacher, and freelance editor with experience editing novels, academic theses, memoirs, poetry collections, scripts, and love letters. I have over a decade of teaching English Composition online — which amounts to checking 10-20 essays a day for errors in citation, coherence, and style.

Some people think a MFA teaches you how to write: it doesn't. It teaches you how to both give and take criticism. To get your ego out of the way and work for the good of the project -- anyone's project. I learned to love watching my friends succeed with my edits. I want to do the same for you and help your projects flourish. The more good writing there is in the world, the better for everyone.

Let me put my craft and devotion at your service.

Testimonials

"I hired Brian to edit my novel The Trench Angel (Leapfrog Press, 2015) before it went out to publishers. Brian gave cogent advice about the book's organization, theme, and voice, while doing a spectacular job on the line level. He gave critiques kindly but also firmly. He was worth every penny. Working with Brian was great! Not only did he catch a couple of grammatical errors, he also gave my piece a fresh look. For me, the process felt like a workshop, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Thanks Ivan! It was great working with you, and that workshop feel is easy when I get to work with another poet. Best!
