Brian Horowitz

Brian Horowitz – Editor

I'm a copy editor and proofreader with 28 years of experience. I've copyedited everything from tech trades to celebrity weeklies.

Overview

I'm a seasoned tech journalist and copy editor with more than 25 years of experience. I started my career as a copy editor and writer at Computer Shopper magazine in 1996, when the magazine was more than 900 pages per month. Following that 10-year stint, I branched out to copyedit entertainment stories in Vanity Fair and Us Weekly, health and fitness tips in Men’s Journal, Self and Shape, and stories on the key games of the week in Sports Illustrated. I also enjoyed a four-year stint as a freelance copy editor for MTV, editing blog posts about Justin Bieber's hair, Katy Perry's latex outfits and the antics of the "Jersey Shore" cast.

Between 2008 and 2014, my tech writing career then took me to InternetNews, eWEEK and CruxialCIO. As a writer, I have developed an expertise in the intersection of tech and health care. During my time at eWEEK and CruxialCIO, I was named one of the top 25 influencers covering the health tech space. I have also copyedited for several health publications, including American Baby, Self and Shape.

In 2014, I entered the world of content marketing as a senior editor at Group SJR, a WPP agency, where I edited and wrote content for clients that included Dell, Johnson & Johnson, Visa, and Xerox. I helped build some new content sites from the ground up.

I then rejoined the publishing world at PCMag as a senior business analyst, writing about topics like AI, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, and retail tech. I'm now back in the freelance world and ready to take on new copyediting projects in any genre. As far as writing, my specialties are tech, health, and business, but I've copyedited everything from news of a celeb pregnancy to cybersecurity tips.

As a copy editor, I'm focused on keeping the language clear and grammatically correct. Copyediting is like working a puzzle as we spot the spelling errors, inconsistencies, and dangling modifiers. I look forward to helping polish copy through Reedsy.
