Overview
I provide freelance copyediting and proofreading services for commercial book publishers and university presses and work with individual authors on select projects. A publishing professional in New York City for two decades, I began my career as an acquisitions editor at Oxford University Press and the New Press and honed my copyediting and line editing skills at the Modern Language Association, where I edited articles for PMLA, the association’s scholarly journal, and managed the MLA Style Center, the association’s online companion to the MLA Handbook. An expert in Chicago and MLA styles, I have a BA in English and French from Vassar College and an MA in comparative literature from NYU, where I taught in the Expository Writing Program.
I work on both fiction and nonfiction but am particularly adept at serious trade nonfiction and scholarly prose in the areas of biography, business, health, humanities, history, and social science. I will provide you with not only meticulous copyediting and proofreading but also clear explanations for my suggestions.
