Ashley Gebert

Ashley Gebert – Editor

I'm a publishing-house editor, and I teach at writing conferences every year. I've edited 100 published books. Will yours be next?

Overview

I am an editor at Covenant Communications and have worked in various positions within the editorial department there since 2015. I've edited over fifty traditionally published books, the genres of which include suspense, romance, historical romance, and inspirational nonfiction. I graduated from BYU with a major in English and a minor in editing. While at BYU, I served on the editorial staff of four student magazines. I love all things story and am the founder and president of a local writing critique group. I am often crafting my own stories, dabbling in everything from fantasy to suspense to historical romance. I also love to learn and recently earned a master's degree in data science.

I have edited in a variety of genres, but the genres I am most experienced in are historical romance, contemporary romance, and mystery/suspense. I specialize in substantive editing, copy editing, and proofreading. Since I manage the submissions desk at Covenant Communications, I also review hundreds of query letters every year, and I would be happy to review yours as well before you send it off to the agent or publisher at the top of your list. In working with authors, I know transparency and communication are key.

Before starting a project, I like to establish expectations and have a clear understanding of the project. When you send a project to me, you can expect clear comments and tracked changes so that you can review all the changes and suggestions I make. When I finish an edit, I'll send you two versions of the manuscript in Word documents. One with all the changes shown and one with all the changes accepted. For proofreads, if the manuscript is in a PDF, I'll make suggested changes using the highlight and comment tool. Of course, if you need me to edit in a different format, I can make adjustments. My main goal is to help you make your story the best it can be!

Ashley was fantastic to work with. This is my second round of editing. The first editor (not associated with Reedsy) never gave me any feedback. Ashley was prompt and on time with the edit. With the development edit, she gave me helpful suggestions for improving several areas. I would say that As...

I think Ashley is a solid editor who tells it like it is. She notices repetition and what is needed in order to make the book better.
