Zach Gajewski

Zach Gajewski – Editor

Experienced nonfiction editor who has worked on award-winners and bestsellers for Penguin Random House, McGraw-Hill, Wiley, and more.

Overview

I am a detail-oriented editor and publishing professional who has spent my career helping authors, agents, and publishers create outstanding, award-winning books.

Starting at academic and trade book producer MTM Publishing, I learned the ins and outs of all facets of editorial management and production. I then moved on to McGraw-Hill—where I developed, acquired, and edited trade and professional titles—before settling into my current role independently editing prescriptive and narrative nonfiction.

I have collaborated with former CEOs, world-renowned speakers, thought leaders, journalists, musicians-turned-writers, and first-time authors from a variety of backgrounds and have contributed to the success of a number of New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal bestsellers.

I hired Zach for an editorial assessment of a business book. Zachʻs attention to structure was a lesson in non-fiction writing all to itself. He carefully addressed the questions I had about my manuscript, providing options for reworking it. He underpromised and overdelivered in terms of length of his editorial assessment and detailed comments! Although his bid was higher than others I receive...

Zach was a true professional. I have never written a book before, and he pointed out many things to me with his 46 page synopsis, and over 2,000 comments in the margin. He earned his $3,000 fee, and then some. I do not blame him that he never seemed to really grasp the message of the book. I didn't until recently, and I'm 65-years old. Regardless, Zach did an excellent job. I have taken ...

Zach G.exceeded my highest hopes for professional editing. After writing my book as a full-time venture for 2 1/2 years, I sought a copy editor. In fact, I specifically wanted Zach due to his impressive back list of titles. Still, this book was my baby, and I was concerned about the influence of outside editing. During the process, however, I discovered that Zach is talented book doctor: he sen...

It was terrific working with Zach on two jobs. He completed both ahead of schedule. Most importantly, he provided helpful comments wherever he found any ambiguities, usually with suggestions on how to clarify them. This was so much more helpful than simply editing the text. His edits were on point, and they made the writing stronger without altering my voice. He will be my first choice for futu...
