Yale Fishman Associates: Public interest in journalism

Yale Fishman, the CEO of Fishman Associates summarizes the shared values, principles, professional standards and practices on which the journalism rests. He primarily intended to inform reporters, editors and other media works involved in creating journalistic content, regardless of whether they come from public or commercial, or traditional or new media.

The whole idea was to assist or to remind the people that they call themselves journalists or media professionals on the principles and standards that should be obeyed when exercising their profession, which primarily is to serve the public interest.

According to Fishman and other members from Yale Fishman Associates, the journalists have an obligation to point out members of state or other public office who have made some-kind of wrongdoings and to explore and elucidate the topics that are of interest to the public. But, the interests of the public do not mean collate with the general public interest. Therefore Fishman Associates include the first concept in testing the journalism for the public interest, which in a practical way captures all the ethical dilemmas they face as daily reporters. Also, it is intended for the citizens, which as an audience should know what to expect from the journalists, critically taking in the information and being able to recognize international journalism.

In a democratic society, public interest means respecting the right to freedom of speech, freedom of expression, the rule of law and the rule of media…

Detecting and sanctioning cases of conflict of interest
Although having spent many years working on the adoption of anti-corruption legislation that regulates the identification, Yale Fishman is among the elected and appointed officials in order to prevent the risk of corruption, its practical implementation and pointing out the conflicts of interest and incompatibility of functions. The State of New York has accepted all the documents from him, hence has adopted the necessary proper application for his role.

The State Commission for Prevention of Corruption adopted some new supplementary rules for the application, among the several laws to prevent the occurrence of conflicts of interest and accumulation of power of competent authorities. The legal gap, according to Yale Fishman Associates, currently contributes for a higher percent of law prevention or conflict of interests, which creates a risk of corruption.

Yale Fishman Associates: Do We Earn As Much As We Think We Are Worth?

Each of us has an inner self image that tells us how much money we can earn. According to Yale Fishman’s Associates, who are present on the market with a decade of experience, we form this self-image based on our previous experiences and our beliefs. Most people don’t believe they can earn $20,000 per month. This amount is so beyond their reality that they simply dismiss any thought of the possibility of earning such sum. Probably there isn’t a single person in this world who wouldn’t want more money, but most often the problem is that we don’t believe in ourselves or our abilities. Based on that self image we also limit ourselves to a certain amount of money that we believe are capable of earning, and with which we feel comfortable. Any deviation from this amount can leads to imbalance that we subconsciously quickly correct.

US $1 Bill

There are, and there always have been people who think they are underpaid. According to Yale Fishman Attorneys and Associates part of their problem is that they usually don’t want to look for another employer who would give them a higher salary. Another thing is that often they are afraid to ask their boss for a raise. Yet may studies have shown that the amount we receive is usually in line with our subconscious thinking about ourselves, even though many people might say that they deserve more. The mere fact that they do nothing about this concern only confirms Fishman’s point.

At an interesting seminar that Yale Fishman Associates recently organized, participants learned that there are ways to test themselves in terms of whether they ate underpaid. All you need to do is calculate how much money you are currently making, and what’s holding you back, leaving you afraid to change jobs for a higher payment. Maybe your current job is at a great location close to home, or you have good company. Once you take all this factors into consideration, Yale Fishman suggests that you estimate the worth of these factors. There are countless reasons why people stay in low-paid jobs, but one thing is certain: the amount you earn is always in accordance with your value and self appreciation.

If we live surrounded by people who have average income, the chances are that we are going to have as well. On the other hand, if all of our friends are rich and successful, you can quickly learn from them how to make more money. Once you realize that it is possible to make more money, and you you’re your friends as an example it is easier to reach for it.

Fishman Associates: Worker’s Privacy Rights in the Workplace

Worker’s privacy right is an increasingly controversial legal topic, especially in this age of computers. Thanks to that technology, it is now easier for employers than ever to monitor workplace communications made by employees. According to Yale Fishman Associates, although workers may feel that monitoring is a violation of their privacy rights, it is in fact allowed by law. Protecting the worker’s privacy rights is an ever ever-changing, complex issue. Today, information about people and even workers are being gathered from different subjects, in different ways and for different purposes. This can easily get out of control and harm either the person whose data was collected, or the person who collected that data.

That is why Yale Fishman’s Law Firm informs that personal information about workers may be collected, processed, used and sent to third parties only if it is stipulated by the Labor Act or any other law, or if it is necessary to exercise the rights and obligations arising from employment or related to employment. Apart from being used in legal issues and relationships, worker’s information must be governed and autonomous. The Personal Data Protection Act regulates the protection of personal data. The employer may empower another person to collect process and give third parties information about an employee. This particularly applies to employers who have more than 20 workers. The person authorized by the employer for these jobs must keep workers’ information in confidentiality, making sure that the collected data is safely kept. For example, workers’ genetic information and medical records are considered strictly confidential, because they can be used to discriminate against employees.

Furthermore, Yale Fishman Associates inform there are both legal and practical considerations to take into account, when it comes to workplace privacy. Generally, employers have the right to monitor their employers’ use of internet, like visiting social networking sites or checking emails on computers owned by the company. Nowadays, Federal Laws forbid discriminating on a prospective or current employee based on information collected from social sites or personal blogs. Therefore, The Associates advises all clients to be careful with what they post online.
