As an editorial assistant, I worked with the editorial department to publish some of the best-selling authors. My responsibilities included:
• Working with the Publisher, Commissioning Editor, and the wider team to keep projects on critical paths and liaising with authors and agents during that process
• Providing colleagues in teams such as Sales, Marketing, Publicity and Rights with relevant and up-to-date material and prompting editors for materials
• Managing the Publisher’s diary and schedule
• Organising meetings, keeping minutes, and managing book fair schedules
• Populating and updating computer systems, including with invoicing and expenses data
• Checking proof corrections, copywriting, researching cover briefs, sending out book proofs and contractual authors’ copies
• Dealing with general queries from authors and colleagues and carrying out other ad hoc team support when required.
