Overview
My initial interest in working on books was piqued at an early age by volunteering as a teen reader for an editor at Penguin from the ages of thirteen through eighteen. That experience led me to want to learn more about publishing, and so while at the University of Minnesota I interned at the indie trade house Milkweed Editions and worked as a student assistant on the production team at the University of Minnesota Press. After graduation I moved to New York and began immersing myself further into the publishing industry. Upon completing the Columbia Publishing Course, I worked as a bookseller at Barnes & Noble while I interned in the production department at Bloomsbury USA.
I then joined Oxford University Press as a member of the editorial department in the academic/trade division and worked on the religion list. At that time I also began to take on freelance projects from other publishers. After three years at OUP I moved on to Penguin Random House to be part of the managing editorial team at the Berkley Publishing Group. At Berkley I worked on all manner of bestselling trade fiction and non-fiction for authors like Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, and Christine Feehan. From late 2015 to mid 2019 I was self-employed as a full-time freelance editor. I now balance freelance projects with the work that I do as a proofreader for the American Medical Association.
