Usch Pilz – Translator

Translating from English to German - Romance, Mystery, Love and Crime. Over 40 books published. 2017 AmazonCrossing Authors' Choice Award

Overview

The best thing about translating books?
I learn something new every day. How to kiss passionately on a galloping horse, how to cut up a corpse, how to bake brownies, how to track a perpetrator through the woods ...
And I get to communicate with authors, editors, correctors and all the other people in the village that it takes to make a book.

Holding a degree in English, German, History and Pedagogic Sciences, I completed my first book translation years ago. I translated from English into German, my native language. And loved it.
After part-time translating for a while, I took the exam for state certified translators in 2011, passed with distinction and have been working as a full-time translator and author ever since.

Under my name "Usch Pilz" and the pen names "Anne Groß" and "Teresa Hein" I have been and am still working for big publishers such as Heyne, Knaur, Diana Verlag, Weltbild, Loewe Script 5, Thienemann Planet Girl, and AmazonCrossing. One of the highlights was receiving the 2017 AmazonCrossing Authors' Choice Award.
I have also ventured into the selfpublishing world and up to now had over 40 books published all together. Further down you can find a selection of the more recent ones. They include different sub genres of romance and suspense, as well as a little fantasy.

As an author I have self-published "Südspitze", a travel book about a trip through South America, and written teaching materials for Westermann.

But my true love still is translation. Translating never gets old. Every book is a challenge and opens up new perspectives. I especially enjoy the research. What is the German title of that movie the characters watch? What are the moves in the character's favorite sports called in my mother tongue?
But the best part is getting across the vibes of a text. My aim is always to stay as close to the author's voice as possible, without making the German text sound translated. For best results, I will work closely with the author, editors and everybody else who will help turn the project into a success.
