Overview
I am a hugely-experienced author, editor, creative writing teacher and ghost (not the scary kind). As an editor, both in house and freelance, I have worked on over a hundred titles, including bestsellers and prize-winners. I am also an internationally bestselling and prize-winning ghostwriter of seventeen books, and author of a dozen more under my own name (both fiction and non-fiction) and editor of well over a hundred titles. I have taught novel writing for over a decade, with thousands of students around the world taking my courses. Many of my former students have gone to be published, including bestsellers and prize-winners such as Joanna Cannon, Asia Mackay, AY Chao and Deborah Masson. I am currently Head of Learning here at Reedsy, where I lead the three-month How To Write A Novel course.
My editorial background began at Little, Brown, part of the Hachette Group, where I worked for seven years. From commissioning there, I went to work as
an editorial director at AA Books and publisher at Pavilion, launching my own imprint. For the last fifteen years I have edited in a freelance capacity for publishers including Faber and Faber, Virgin, Ebury, Monoray, Little, Brown and Penguin. I have also worked as a mentor and book coach for dozens of writers.
The main editing services I offer are developmental editing, editorial assessments and book coaching, though I also take on the occasional copy-edit and texts that require a combination of editing and rewriting. I am happy to discuss all genres, but have a particular interest in literary fiction, crime and thrillers, espionage and romantic comedy. If you are interested in my services, I would love to hear from you.
