Aimee Walker

Aimee Walker – Editor

Writing coach and editor for romance & women's fiction authors, offering supportive, structured guidance from concept to publication

Overview

I work with writers who care deeply about their stories — particularly romance authors who want to write emotionally intelligent, well-structured books without losing their voice along the way.

As a writing coach, I help authors:

* Identify and achieve their goals

* Clarify and develop their concept and ideas

* Make confident story decisions before and during drafting

* Navigate creative resistance, overwhelm, and self-doubt

* Develop and hone their writing skills

* Stay on track – be accountable and motivated through longer projects

* Develop trust in their instincts as writers

My coaching approach is encouraging and kind, and tailored to each clients' individual needs, using my background in therapeutic counselling and education to help authors create their best work with support. Sessions are fun and productive, and my feedback is always honest but given with empathy. I have a range of coaching packages to suit whatever stage you are at in your writing journey.

Alongside coaching, I also offer developmental editing and book doctoring for romance (all subgenres and heat levels) and women's fiction. My developmental editing service is non-traditional, using coaching calls, book maps and markup of the MS rather than always relying on lengthy reports or critiques. Not everyone learns the same way and my tailored approach respects and embraces that.

Whether I’m coaching or editing, my aim is the same: to help you elevate your manuscript while preserving the heart of the story you want to tell.

I also teach other editors how to coach authors and about romance editing for the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders (UK) of which I'm a professional member.

🌟 If you aren't sure what your book needs (Does it really need a full developmental edit? ) ask for my initial appraisal service. I read your full manuscript to advise which level of editing is required and help you make a plan – this has saved many authors a lot of money and stress! 🌟

When I'm not coaching, editing, teaching or reading with a large mug of tea, I'm out in the Irish countryside with my menagerie of animals (donkeys, goats, dogs, you name it, I have one!) or pottering in my garden, picking fresh flowers for my desk.

✨ Testimonial:

Working with Aimee was an incredibly positive and grounding experience. Her feedback was thoughtful, precise, and always aligned with what I was actually trying to do with the story. She helped me strengthen the structure and emotional clarity of the manuscript without ever overriding my voice. She has a rare combination of craft insight and warmth, and her guidance made both the book and my confidence as a writer stronger. I’m genuinely grateful for her support and would recommend her coaching wholeheartedly to anyone working on complex, emotionally driven fiction. ✨

As the owner of my own press, I provide coaching and editing (developmental, copyediting and proofreading) to indie authors, often guiding them through the tricky self-publishing process. * Went from entry level member to intermediate and now professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders * Compiled and published a romance anthology using twisted tropes * Provide project management to take author through full process (hiring cover designers, formatters etc to ensure end product is the best it can be) * Mentor other editors who want to be writing coaches * Wrote and self-published my own craft book for romance authors * Coordinate the CIEP local group for Northern Ireland * Spoke at CIEP conference 2024 about writing coaching * Have edited over one hundred books and worked with countless authors

Aimee has been an amazing editor to work with. Gives a lot of good pointers, manageable home work for editing and reading to be done by myself (or those who are using her services). Will defiantly use again when I need to.
