Steve Kasdin

Steve Kasdin – Editor

Former agent and developmental editor specializing in Thrillers and Mysteries. Will get you ready for publication!

Overview

I have over thirty years in book publishing as an agent, editor, marketer and book buyer. Having worked at three publishing houses, two agencies and executive positions at both Barnes & Noble and Amazon I have a comprehensive understanding of the publishing ecosystem from the first glimmer of an idea to a bookstore shelf.

I started in the business as the Mystery & Thriller buyer at Barnes & Noble, and those are still my favorite categories. As an agent I learned how to take early drafts of first-time writers and whip their stories into shape for publication. For example, many unpublished thriller writers have a great idea, great opening and climax but they tend to flag in the middle sections. I can help you pace the story to keep the reader's attention all the way through.

And when it's ready I can help you craft a great query letter to find an agent. At Amazon I helped develop the KDP program so if you're interested in self-publishing I can walk you through that process as well.

Writing a great story and getting it published is a tough process. I can help make it easier.

He identified what I needed: a high level evaluation of the story’s strengths and weaknesses, including pacing, structure, and character development. I also appreciated that he took on the project earlier than scheduled ...

Really pleased, price was reasonable, and the feedback I received was very good. Complimentary, but also critical in a fashion which, upon reflection, rang very true. I found his contribution extremely helpful.

Steve was very thorough and professional in reviewing my manuscript. He read it twice and his comments to me were honest and instructive. In retrospect, the concerns that he had were also present in the back of my mind. I agreed with most of his concerns and see how these changes will make it ...

I would recommend finding a better professional. I asked for an editorial development and all I got was five double spaced pages of summary and generalizations … nothing helpful … nothing specific. Not worth all the money I paid. I recommend asking for a SAMPLE of what to expect in return for you...

Too many words? Not enough? A subplot that wandered off like a Roomba? I refine structure & polish prose—esp. fantasy/romantasy. | PRH alum
