Overview
With more than ten years of experience in fiction translation from English to German I have come across numerous different genres. I'm most passionate about literary and commercial romance, YA, cozy crime and romantic suspense, but I have also translated thrillers and not-so-cozy crime stories - I can deal with a certain amount of blood, but not too much.:) Since I've lived both in North America and Great Britain I'm a big fan of both varieties. And if you are from New Zealand, Australia, Africa or any other English speaking country, I'd be also very (very, very!) happy to translate your book.
I have a postgraduate degree as a conference interpreter and a technical translator and my first steps as a freelancer began with the boring kind of texts - contracts, product descriptions and such. However, I always knew that there were more exciting texts out there which is why a few years later I completed another postgraduate course in literary translation and have never regretted that choice.
I like the challenge of being true to the author's voice, while at the same time keeping in mind that the finished translation should never be recognized as one. For a translator the best feedback is if the readers comment on the author's nice writing style, not being aware that it isn't the original language the author has written his or her text. I've always dreamed of an invisibility cloak when I was a kid (like the one Harry Potter has) - and I guess this is as close as I can come to being invisible.
