Sophia Schoepfer

Sophia Schoepfer – Editor

Literary fiction and non-fiction editor. Friendly, thorough and supportive. Worked at Big Five publishers HarperCollins and Hachette.

Overview

Hi, I'm Sophia.

I worked as an editor at Hachette and HarperCollins, two of the largest and most successful publishing houses in the world, for the past six years.

I've edited commercial and literary fiction and non-fiction, and I’m well-equipped to get stuck in with books of any genre, though my speciality is literary fiction.

I've had the pleasure of collaborating with bestselling, award-winning and critically-acclaimed authors including Amanda Craig, Sophie Hannah, Emma Jane Unsworth, Caroline O'Donoghue, Alexander McCall Smith, Jane Harper, Hollie McNish and Colson Whitehead, as well as working in heritage publishing for legendary writers Agatha Christie and JRR Tolkien. In addition to editing the work of established writers, I've teamed up with many debut authors to develop their very first books.

I'm happy to help with everything from big-picture developmental edits to polishing up your sentences. I'm thorough and thoughtful with my feedback and have a famously sharp eye for detail. I always offer a phone call after returning my edit so you and I can chat through my notes.

I can provide advice on how best to approach agents, and I also offer query letter feedback, having worked at Curtis Brown, the literary and talent agency, reviewing submissions from aspiring authors.

Collaborating one-on-one with writers is my passion, and I love developing stories and making sentences shine. Writing can be a solitary practice, but teaming up with an editor provides an invaluable opportunity to receive expert support on your journey.

If you're in need of that support then please reach out. I would love to help, and I'm looking forward to reading your story!
