Sophia Schoepfer

Sophia Schoepfer – Editor

Literary and commercial fiction editor. Previously HarperCollins and Hachette. Kind, detailed and supportive. I will make your writing sing!

Overview

Hi, I'm Sophia.

I worked as an editor at HarperCollins and Hachette, two of the most successful publishing houses in the world, for over six years.

I edited commercial and literary fiction, and I had the pleasure of collaborating with bestselling and award-winning authors including Alexander McCall Smith, Jane Harper, Hollie McNish and Colson Whitehead. I also had the honour of working on the heritage lists for legendary writers Agatha Christie, JRR Tolkien and Patrick O'Brian. In addition to editing the books of established writers, I've teamed up with many debut authors to develop their very first novels.

I'm happy to help with everything from big-picture editorial assessments to detailed developmental edits. My feedback is thorough and thoughtful, and I have a famously sharp eye for detail. I always offer a phone call after returning my editorial notes so we can chat through any of your questions.

I also provide a query letter review service. Having worked at a literary agency reviewing hundreds of submissions from aspiring authors, I know the recipe for a brilliant query letter. I love helping writers craft the perfect pitch for agents and a tight, compelling synopsis.

Writing can be a solitary practice, but teaming up with an editor provides an invaluable opportunity to receive expert support on your journey. It's my passion to collaborate one-on-one with writers like you. If you're in need of guidance please reach out.

I'm looking forward to reading your story!

I'm so glad I found Sophia! She provided the ideal amount of feedback on my novel: enough suggestions to be helpful but not so many that they were overwhelming. She also took the time to understand what I wanted to do with the manuscript, so her advice felt very much in line with my vision. I highly recommend Sophia!
