Overview
I am a professional writer and editor, with a degree in English literature and several decades of experience working on business books, magazines and journals.
The non-fiction titles I've edited have covered diverse topics ranging from the green economy to leadership and a first-hand account of the 1972 Andes plane crash by one of the survivors.
Meanwhile, with my magazine editor hat on, I've worked on an array of B2B publications – for nurses, doctors, HR professionals, business leaders, educators, academics and the conference & incentive industry.
Over many years working in publishing I've learned that:
- engaging storytelling can bring the driest of topics to life, while skilful editing turns everyday writing into compelling copy.
- when you know a lot about a subject, you can get mired in detail and complexity; a good editor will help make your writing more accessible.
- inconsistent style looks careless and undermines authority...
- but readability is more important than pedantry. In other words, a thorough grasp of spelling and grammar must be balanced with respect for an author’s unique voice, their overall intent and the requirements of their audience.
I take a thoughtful and creative approach to my projects – whether working with established, first-time or self-publishing writers. I’d be delighted to edit books within or beyond the scope of business and management; I have an interest in true crime and health and wellbeing, and read fiction voraciously, so feel well-equipped to broaden my scope.
My aim is simply to get the best out of any piece of writing – and to work collaboratively with clients to help them meet their goals. I pride myself on being approachable, reliable and easy to work with.
