Sarah Cook

Sarah Cook – Editor

Freelance copy-editor, proof reader and indexer since 2007. I'm a genealogist specialising in family, social and cultural history and biogs.

Overview

I am a freelance qualified copy-editor, proof reader and indexer, and I have worked for various publishers including Edward Elgar, Routledge, Taylor & Francis, Palgrave Macmillan, Sage Publications, Bloomsbury Academic, Manchester University Press, Bristol University Press, Ashgate Publishing, Cengage Learning, BEAM Education (Nelson Thornes), Chambers Harrap, The Folio Society, Hodder Education, Whittet Books and Willan Publishing. I have copy-edited for businesses including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the National Association of School Business Management (now the Institute of School Business Leadership). It's primarily been heavily academic work, and I am ready for a change.

I am very interested in genealogy, family and cultural history, and I would love to work on your book if you're aiming to publish within this genre. I also like to work on biographies, books on nature and the environment, walking, music, sport and cooking - all subjects I am interested in. If you are looking to publish your family history or want to tell your story, then I can help. I have almost 40 years of experience in genealogy, and I am a member of various genealogical societies and family history groups. I have two autistic children, one with complex special needs, and would love to work on books about special needs, autism, ADHD and disabilities. I can copy-edit your manuscript so that it reads well and the story flows. I will look for typos, make sure your spellings are correct and consistent, and your styling and grammar are correct. If you're looking for an index and your book has already been typeset, I can create an index for you and will proof read your book as I work on the index. If you're looking for a proof read, I will amend any inconsistencies and make sure your manuscript is ready for the next stage in the publishing process.

If this sounds interesting, then please get in touch. I would love to help!
