Copy editor and proofreader for books on fitness and health, from training to memoir. I want to help your book be the best it can be.
Overview
As it turns out, my teenage hobbies of reading and doing sports have not only lasted a lifetime but also resulted in an editorial career. After a stint in graduate school, I began copyediting at Rodale Inc., first in garden books and then at a cycling magazine. I also turned myself from a runner into a cyclist, learning from the training plans and fitness tips I spent all day editing. I've since moved on to editing a theology journal (an unexpected turn, for sure!) but have continued freelance editing for a book publisher, mostly in cycling, running, and Cross-Fit, but I'm always ready for something new whether it's a sport or a book project. When it come time to edit, I picture myself sitting next to the writer, working as part of a team to help the book become even better. I see myself as helping the writer, and I do that by keeping the reader in mind. I try to help writers become more clear with their messaging and more precise with their language so readers really understand the message. I ask tactful, diplomatic questions and I'm always willing to explain why I've suggested a change. If there's something I don't know, I research it before asking. My goals is to be helpful, thorough, and committed to helping your book become the best it can be.

In addition to my day job as a managing editor for an academic journal, I do freelance copy editing and proofreading, mostly on books about health and fitness. I've also edited memoirs and histories, and I've done academic editing and recipe editing.
I am proficient at using and creating project-specific style guides and with the Chicago Manual of Style. I also know AP and APA styles. I'm very good with charts, graphs, illustrations, maps, and display copy.
My queries are diplomatic and tactful, and I'm always ready to explain a change!

I manage deadlines for an academic theology journal, making sure everything goes to press on time. I also create marketing materials for the publisher and run the journal's social media account. I proofread the entire issue and work with editors and writers on copyedits and formatting.

Christine added value to my project. She helped me organize my ideas with developmental editing. Raise some questions I needed to think about to make my book better. I appreciate her input on this and highly recommend her work. Thanks Christine!

Working with Christine for the editing of my book, 'Runhundred,' was an absolute game-changer. Her proficiency in both developmental and copy editing significantly improved the manuscript and had an important impact on the final result. Her expert feedback was detailed, well explained, sometimes ...
Christine far exceeded my expectations - I can tell from the work that she has put into my book she was focused on making my book the best it could be.
