Liz Gilbeau

Liz Gilbeau – Editor

I am a freelance copy editor and proofreader with nearly 20 years of experience, specializing in YA and fantasy.

Overview

Major projects I've worked on: Proofreading hundreds of Young Adult and Middle Grade novels for Scholastic. (My personal favorites are The Hunger Games series and Wings of Fire series.) Proofreading academic journals for Texas Tech and Harvard University Press. Copyediting a series of custom textbooks for the Health Assistant program at Remington College. Proofreading course books, lab manuals, teacher's manuals, and workbooks for grades K–12 for Oak Meadow (home-school curriculum). Copyediting online study guides for Course Hero. Copyediting manuscripts for Hachette Book Group, including The Plot to Destroy Democracy by Malcolm Nance, which went on to be a New York Times Bestseller.

I enjoy working on many different genres, but YA is my favorite. (I vividly remember the sting of adolescence.) My editing style is conversational. I offer suggestions for rewrites and ask a lot of questions, but I know the importance of not stepping on an author's toes. I take tons of notes while I work to zero in on inconsistencies. Basically, I'm like your slightly annoying friend who always corrects your grammar.

Liz was great! Professional and thorough, she did a fantastic job saving me from the deluge of my own grammatical errors. I'm more than satisfied with the end result and I highly recommend her as a wonderful editor.

My professional collaboration with Liz has been an unequivocally positive experience. This marks our second project together, and I can attest that her performance was as commendable as our initial venture. On this occasion, Liz undertook a thorough proofreading of my manuscript. Her timeliness is one of the many aspects that sets her apart; she delivered the edited manuscript ahead of schedul...

Work was done in a good quality though I do wish she would have done a second comb through after I implemented the first wave of changes she recommended just to make sure nothing else was missed and for reassurance.
