After ten years in the publishing industry I understand what a commissioning editor is looking for and the importance of shaping content for the audience. With a background as a dedicated development editor before becoming a commissioning editor I specialise in nurturing authors, their ideas and their manuscripts to ensure they are polished, fit for market, and will catch the reader's eye.

I have experience in a wide variety of topic areas including psychology and counselling, sociology and social work, nursing, law, architecture and construction, information science, marketing, business, geography, politics and criminology. I have also worked across many book types and audience levels including pedagogically-rich textbooks, specialist monographs and edited collections, professional and trade books, and highly illustrated titles. More importantly I have a proven track record with esteemed publishers from Pearson Education to Palgrave Macmillan as well as smaller, institutional publishers such as the Royal Institute of British Architects.

I can provide tailor-made services from a critique of your book proposal to a 'deep' development edit of your manuscript, tackling structure, style and scope, and including a list of key recommendations. Alternatively you may just need a consultation on how - and who - to approach with your manuscript.

Because I have an international audience, I found it useful to have Sarah Busby copy edit my book (she is in the UK, I am in the US). She was direct in pointing out areas of strength as well as areas to further develop with clear instructions and edits on how to do so. Her background was also a good fit for my book, Breaking Free from Bias: Preventing Costly Complaints, Conflict, and Talent Loss.

The best I ever did for my non-fiction book was choosing Sarah as my content editor. Her feedback and suggestions go well beyond normal content editing, into providing valuable insight and suggestions on how to improve book marketability. Sarah's ideas were so helpful and her constructive criticism is worth every penny. I highly recommend Sarah for content editing and editorial assessment.
