Overview
After a 15-year career in publishing, I've decided to strike out on my own. I have extensive experience in editing, proofreading, and producing books and journal articles. Aside from honing my skills as an editor, during my career I excelled at coordinating the various parts of a project and getting it done on time.
Even though I think of myself as an editorial jack-of-all trades, I think I most excel at big-picture thinking, and so developmental editing is my greatest strength. Structure, organization, and focus are the things that turn a great idea into a compelling story, and I would be honored to help your tell yours. I believe editing is a collaborative process, and I strive to preserve the author's voice and provide prompt, respectful communication.

I am pursuing my dream of running my own editing business. I provide a suite of editorial services, including proofreading, copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing. I can also call on my long career in publishing to guide authors through the process of publishing a book.
Texas State Historical Association
I oversaw the publication of a scholarly journal and the operations of a small press. I did pretty much everything but design: editing, proofreading, project management, exhibiting at conferences, constructing budgets, and more.
University of Kansas
I like to highlight this experience because it is how I discovered my knack for editing. I taught and assisted with classes in American and Latin American history--and I helped my grad school colleagues with their papers.
