Rukhsana Yasmin – Editor

Award-winning editor & former literary agent specialising in literary fiction, narrative nonfiction & global majority voices.

Overview

I’m an award-winning editor and former literary agent with more than fifteen years’ experience shaping acclaimed nonfiction, literary fiction, and culturally significant books. I’ve worked across publishing houses, literary magazines, and international literary organisations, including Profile Books, Saqi Books, Commonwealth Writers, and The Good Literary Agency. I specialise in narrative nonfiction, memoir, cultural criticism, diaspora narratives, and idea-driven writing — the kinds of books that start conversations, unsettle assumptions, or keep someone awake far too late because they have to finish one more chapter.

As an editor, I combine big-picture thinking with close attention to structure, clarity, tone, and flow. I’ll help you sharpen your argument, strengthen your narrative, and elevate your writing while protecting what makes your voice distinctive. My editing style is collaborative, honest, and encouraging — rigorous when needed, but never cold or intimidating. Whether you’re wrestling with a messy draft, an overgrown footnote forest, or a chapter that refuses to behave, I can help bring clarity and momentum to the process. Expect thoughtful feedback, practical guidance, and an editor who is genuinely invested in making your work the strongest version of itself.
