Robin Larin

Robin Larin – Editor

Developmental and line-level editing of fiction, bringing the mind of an English professor and the heart of a writer to your work.

Overview

“Your line edit of my MG/YA fantasy novel Legend Hollow: The Witch’s Cookbook was fantastic! You added life to the story and took much of the language from clunking along to singing. I can’t wait to have you edit my next entry. You are a magician!”

~Taylor Pensoneau

Struggling with big-picture bogeys or grammar-level gremlins? I can help! I’m an award-winning editor specializing in developmental and line-level editing of fiction, especially SFF and children’s (YA, MG, and PB, including rhyme). With my advanced degrees in literature and creative writing plus my Certificate in Editing from Simon Fraser University, I bring the mind of an English professor and the heart of a writer to your work.

Literature and language have been my passions since childhood. Years of studying, teaching, and writing fiction have honed my instincts for writing that reaches the heart and mind of the reader—writing that is clear, engaging, and beautiful.

Your writing, made its best self with my help.

"As a creative writer, you have two best friends: your muse and your editor. I’m lucky to have found Robin as my editor. She’s creative, constructive, and concise. She doesn’t edit to make your work sound like her; she edits to make your manuscripts sound more like you." ~Jimmy Vee

I generally work “silently” but am always open to hearing from you as I work on your project. For developmental edits, I provide in-text comments and suggestions plus a comprehensive report addressing any relevant big-picture issues (plot, structure, characterization, POV, setting/world building, pacing, overall expression) with specific examples to guide your revision.

While I do offer basic copy editing (punctuation, usage, grammar, spelling, consistency), my specialty is stylistic copy editing, or line editing. I ensure that all PUGS are covered while also clarifying your expression and tightening up any wordiness, repetition, or redundancy so that your story shines through.

Looking to query an agent or publisher? I also offer query letter edits. Because I'm involved in both the writing and editing industries, I know what makes for a strong query that will stand out to agents and publishers.

"All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! Your DE of Death in High Places is spot on, incredibly helpful, and structured so I can fix things. You’ve left me a clear roadmap to improvements. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

~Sara L. Jameson

Robin's line edits dramatically improved how my story sounds. After applying the edits, the story sounds so much smoother! I also appreciated the suggestions for stronger verbs and picking up parts of the story that didn't make sense or weren't articulated clearly. Robin is very thorough, thought...

Working with Robin was AMAZING! She has a sharp eye for detail and every suggestion she made was on point. I truly felt like she cared about the story as much as I did and completely understood exactly what it needed to become the best version it could be. This definitely won’t be our last colla...
