When I wrote my first book, Night Madness – A Rear Gunner’s Story of Love, Courage, and Hope in WWII, which was ultimately published in October 2012 I had the privilege of working directly with Richard D., the publisher of Red Deer Press. Richard offered to personally take on the task of working with me, as a first time author, to provide editorial guidance with respect to the book’s structure as well as copy editing. It would be an understatement to say that with Richard’s guidance , patience and input, my initial draft was transformed into a compelling and readable story. Richard’s greatest contributions were in the structure of the book. This included insightful recommendations to add first-hand accounts on-the-ground from a German perspective on the bombing of Dresden, as well as prefacing the part of my story on my Dad’s experience with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with an introductory chapter to address the nature of PTSD in terms of incidence and treatments.
