Rhonda Mason

Rhonda Mason – Editor

Experienced developmental editor with Big 5 and media tie-in clients. I specialize in sci-fi, fantasy, and all subgenres of romance.

Overview

In my 10+ years as an editor, I’ve worked with authors at Simon and Schuster, Harlequin, Titan Books, and at media franchises like Stargate: SG1. I’ve worked with fantastic indie pub, self-published, and as-yet unpublished authors as well.

My specialty is genre fiction, and I love it so much that I earned a masters in Writing Popular Fiction. As a developmental editor I can help you tame your twisty mystery, rein in a romance gone wild, and keep your epic fantasy from drowning in its own worldbuilding. I enjoy working with every genre, but I have a soft spot for sci-fi, fantasy, and romance.

As an editor, I like to be a partner in your process. I aim to be supportive while still giving you the feedback necessary to take your book to the next level. Think of me as the friend who tells it like it is. In addition to analyzing what’s not working and why, I’ll get into how things can be improved, and help you decide how to move forward. My goal is to help you not only improve this book, but give you the knowledge and skills you need to improve the next one.

My expertise in genre fiction extends to writing as well. I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of feedback, and I always keep that in mind as I work. I’m published in long and short fiction, writing in the genres of epic fantasy, space opera, historical romance, and dark urban fantasy.

The second book in my space opera trilogy was a Barnes and Noble sci-fi/fantasy monthly pick.

Testimonial:

"I am a published author with one of the big five NYC companies. I go to Rhonda for developmental edits with all my projects. She is insightful and thorough. What I appreciate most is that while she is excellent at zeroing in on problem areas and their potential solutions, she also makes time to point out what is working well." Working with Rhonda is one of the best things I could have ever done for my manuscript! Her editorial notes and page by page feedback was so thoughtful and thorough. Rhonda was so gracious to answer my follow up questions and being able to hop on a call with her to discuss the edits in more depth was invaluable. My manuscript is going to end up 10x better than it would have been without her help!
