Rachael Souza – Editor

As a Content Strategist (originally my title was Associate Editor I have gained experience in developmental editing and proofreading. I also keep authors on track with deadlines and oversee the production process. I create financial planners for revisions, as well as first editions, arguing the competitive advantage, and discussing the content of the proposed text. I have taken on a leadership role within the editorial support team, conducting multiple trainings with new hires and working as a mentor for those on my team. I complete manuscript and proposal reviews by contacting and following-up with reviewers, compiling responses, and analyzing feedback. I also attend conferences to meet with potential buyers and explore opportunities for expanding our list.

I evaluate nonfiction and fiction submissions for possible publication, analyzing them for quality, content, and overall effect.

I am the Editor and co-creator of a newsletter focused on the low-residency, MFA in Creative Writing program. I write, edit, and format content for the monthly publication. I also conduct interviews, solicit material from faculty and students, and produce original content.

I analyzed manuscript submissions for content, editorial issues, target audience, etc. I was in charge of reviewing and accepting track changes, evaluating the edits for accuracy and appropriateness. I researched and employed Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques to improve the search-ability of our texts. I also utilized InDesign and Photoshop to create interior layouts and design covers.
