Hannah Gokie

Hannah Gokie – Editor

Detailed copyeditor and zealous proofreader, with 10+ years' professional experience ranging from academic non-fiction to epic fantasy.

Overview

As a copyeditor with 10+ years' professional experience, editing anything from Native language dictionaries to baseball statistic reference manuals to modern African poetry collections to epic YA fantasy tomes, I can help your piece become what it needs to for your audience. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and have been copyediting for my whole life, even before then, much to the chagrin of my family and friends.

I specialize in Chicago Manual of Style and have worked my way front and back through the "orange Bible" as a true CMS devotee. I am proficient in editing in Microsoft Word with track changes as well as in Adobe Acrobat, and before everything went digital I was editing on giant paper manuscripts using a striking red pen and those funny symbols!

I've had my fair share of diverse authors, from those around my block to halfway across the globe, from those whose first language isn't English to those who have my same degree in English. I've edited for small university presses and self-publishing authors on Amazon, so between all of those, chances are I've worked with an author in your exact situation!

If your piece needs an extra polish, or serious revision, I'm game for whatever it takes to make it stand out and as perfect as can be.

Once again, Hannah has gone above and beyond in her work she did for my book. She gets invested in the story and makes suggestions that truly enhance the flow of the story including both dialogue and narrative. She takes time to answer questions and to clarify which is truly valuable. I plan on working with Hannah again and highly recommend her to others who need a solid editor. She has helped ...

This is my second time collaborating with Hannah on my novel series. She provided feedback, structural fixes, dialogue suggestions, and identified passages in need of better context with a comprehensive line edit of my manuscript. I'd recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their story.

Hannah has a laid back yet professional approach. She was very easy to work with, especially for someone who is not used to the "writing industry" as it were. She was extremely patient in explaining the typical editing process and gave great feedback on my book. Responses to messages were timely, and she clearly explained her reasons behind her comments and suggestions. I really appreciate ...

Hannah was a joy to work with. She was quick to respond--even with the significant time difference between us--and very clear in her responses. In another year or so, I will be looking for an editor for another science fiction novel. Hannah is already on my short list!
Hannah G.
Thank you so much for your kind words, F. J.! I really enjoyed working on your book, and best of luck with all your future projects.
