Ian Phillipson

Ian Phillipson – Ghostwriter

Ghostwriter to entrepreneurs and execs who want a thought leadership book to their name but have neither time nor inclination to write it.

Overview

As a ghostwriter, I work with entrepreneurs, executives, business owners, companies, consultants and coaches who are looking for someone they can rely on and trust to capture their ideas in the way they want.

I have specialised in ghostwriting books for the last 15 years. In that time, I've ghostwritten nearly 30 books some of which have become Amazon Best Sellers and won multiple writing awards for their authors. I've also written five published books in my name on topics that include entrepreneurship, working from home, PR and marketing.

Many of my authors work in technology, finance and business leadership, which means I've ghostwritten on a diverse range of topics such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), healthcare and life sciences, AI, digital and online enterprise, software and cybersecurity, personal finance and banking, sustainability and climate change, retail and commercialisation, transport and automotive, energy and infrastructure development, sales and marketing, business leadership and management, personal development and education.

Previous clients include those at organisations such as Oracle, Taser, Hyland Software (a leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms), NTT DATA (a leading Japanese IT firm), Arthur D Little (a global management consultancy), Lloyds Private Banking, Aston University, Yamaha, The BBC, Teacher's Whisky, The Wellcome Trust, as well as other leading software firms, retail consultancies and government bodies.

Outside of ghostwriting books, I was Communications Director at a PR and marketing agency helping companies from start-ups to corporates put their message across; an editor of five magazines (three from launch); and a scriptwriter for some of BBC TV's iconic comedy shows.

This rich mix means that whether you are looking for a thought leadership book or a life story, I will understand your needs and be able to write in your voice.

While some of my authors can write well but just don’t have the time to write a business book, others struggle to get ideas out of their heads and shape them into a narrative that tells their story in the way they want. This is when I step in as their business ghostwriter.

• the CEO of a global services marketplace who wanted a book to communicate his vision of the development of a ‘size zero’ economy consisting of the leanest possible organizations that can rapidly pivot in response to change and ...

• the Chairman of a New York financial firm who was in at the birth of the mobile phone industry and wanted an ‘autobiographical book’ to ensure there was a record of those early days and ...

• the Vice President AMER Sales at a leading US Internet of Things firm who wanted a 'legacy book' that would encapsulate his thought on how global manufacturing was being disrupted by technology.

Can I help you in the same way?

I'd like to think so. But given your unique needs, it's too early to say whether I have the package of skills, experience and personality that's best for you. However, I can tell you others chose me because they liked that:

… I’m a 'safe pair of hands' who wouldn't let them down given my track record of delivery — I’ve made my living writing words for over 20 years, ghostwriting many non-fiction books including Amazon Best Sellers for individual entrepreneurs and corporate organizations as well writing five of my own ...

… I’ve strong background writing high-quality content — web content, white papers, blogs and flagship reports — for headline names like global management consultancy Arthur D Little, Taser, Yamaha, NTT DATA (a Japanese multinational information technology service) Lloyd’s Private Banking, Thames Water, the BBC and Hyland Software (named a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms) and UK governmental organisations ...

… I’ve hands-on business experience having spent five years as Communications Director of a PR and marketing agency, helping companies from start-ups to corporates put their message across ...

… I can translate complex information, ideas and concepts into clear and appealing copy, something my clients, many of whom are in technical fields, particularly appreciate. So, for senior executives at an international management consultancy, I've just finished ghostwriting ‘Disruption', a heavily researched 80,000-word book on how ‘fintechs’ are disrupting the banking sector. Recent press reviews called it: "... a timely and thought-provoking book", "... an enjoyable read" and filled with "... interesting ideas and insights about what the future might bring ..."

… I’m good at capturing interest through words, something I learned working on magazines (I’ve edited five, including two business publications from launch), where you must quickly engage to keep people reading ...

… I can echo someone's ‘voice’ in words so that it feels like it's theirs. And if you’re not sure what your voice is like then I can help you find it even if it's funny or quirky (I used to be a scriptwriter for top BBC comedy shows) ...

... and I always aim to bring a collaborative, ‘extra value approach’ to the whole ghostwriting process. As one tech entrepreneur was kind enough to say: “A great experience. Together we went from a disorganised ‘hairball of ideas’ to a cohesive story, entirely due to Ian’s expertise.“

So, that's me, a highly experienced ‘business ghostwriter’ who helps executives, entrepreneurs and business owners capture their stories in a book. Now it's your turn to tell me about you.

I held a senior position at this marketing agency where I was responsible for overseeing copywriting and marketing strategy for many different clients in the industrial, environmental and commercial sectors. This experience deepened my commercial knowledge in general and gave me further insights into business writing and the process of corporate communications.

Ian did an outstanding job of capturing my thoughts and purpose, combining them with his own research on cybersecurity, and crafting a great technical story that speaks to non-technical people. I didn't think it possible to draw readers in to a book on cybersecurity management -- a less than thrilling subject -- but he nailed it.
