Overview
Travel got me into writing, editing, and trouble – whether climbing mountains, getting lost in the world's biggest cities, or wading through thickets of text about distant lands, I've done it all. Older now, and more "settled," I've shifted to copyediting non-fiction in the humanities and social sciences. More and more, I'm also stepping in at earlier stages to do a developmental edit.
I like to work hand-in-hand with writers to guide them on the journey to publication, particularly those who are still in the early stages and need help shaping their ideas. I particularly like ambitious books that want to change the world. If you are passionate about your project, I'm excited to take it on!

National Geographic Books
At National Geographic Books, I authored three comprehensive guidebooks about Japan, imbuing them with detailed insights and engaging narratives. Subsequently, I took on an editorial role for an additional eight books in the series, meticulously copyediting to guarantee accuracy and enhance their readability, ensuring each edition met the esteemed standards of the brand.
University of Toronto Press
Transforming scholarly prose into polished gems, one footnote at a time.
Self-employed
As a developmental editor, I meticulously guide writers in refining their narratives, ensuring they're primed for self-publishing success or garnering the interest of traditional publishers. My expertise not only sharpens the essence of a story but also elevates its market appeal, bridging the gap between an author's vision and a reader's anticipation.
