Overview

I have more than four decades of experience as a professional writer, ghostwriter, editor, book coach and publishing consultant. I am the author of eight nonfiction books, including The Complete GONE WITH THE WIND Trivia Book, now in its second edition. My byline has appeared in Seventeen, Mademoiselle, Woman’s Day and other national publications. As a book coach, I have helped more than 25 clients achieve their book publication dreams.

I believe that brilliant ideas and great nonfiction books blossom through close collaboration with clients. That means I ask questions and listen to the answers until I understand the book’s goals, message and audience. I synthesize information, share ideas and shape the direction of each book with the client. Then I add the hallmarks of my work: creativity, excellence and results.

Clients tell me they appreciate my ability to work as a publishing partner, offering insights and posing tactful questions to help expand the scope of the material and then writing material or helping the client write material that reflects the client’s voice and shares information in an authentic, clear and compelling style. I love working with clients that have great stories to tell.

A resident of Waterford in upstate New York, I live in The Maryline, a 1930s bungalow that I share with the ghost of the original owner.

Testimonials:

"For many years, I have wanted to write a book. The book-writing process seemed long and time consuming. It would take a back seat on my list of things to do. Years went by and I knew I needed some help, like an accountability partner, a coach.

I finally hired Pauline Bartel of Bartel Communications to be my book coach. What a great decision! Pauline simplified the book-writing process immediately. She gave me a weekly assignment. We would have a weekly conference call to review that week's work and discuss the next step. Pauline was knowledgeable and helpful. She had experience helping many people before me and had published her own successful books. I had full confidence in her abilities to assist me.

But it was not only about Pauline's skills and assistance -- she was a motivator. I cherished the constructive criticism mixed in with a great deal of motivation. I knew she wanted me to succeed.

As a result, I welcomed my first book -- Stories from the Sales Field: Navigating a Sales Career in a Post-Pandemic World -- thanks to Pauline."

"I finished the first draft of my novel, but the manuscript was not quite right. I couldn't figure out why. I decided I needed more help for what I was trying to accomplish, so I hired you. You read my manuscript and then sent me a detailed report about the strengths and weaknesses of the story and suggestions for revisions.

As authors, we feel we can write, and we can, but that doesn't mean that what we write is great. So I swallowed my pride and set about going over every detail in that report. I pulled out chapter upon chapter of unnecessary back story. I revised the flow of dialogue. I even corrected basic grammar and punctuation problems that I should have caught myself. Your report came with articles of all kinds to read and learn from. I learned so much from you and your honesty about my work. Of course, many rewrites followed. Then, Now Say You're Sorry, my mystery-suspense thriller was published.

My book is doing beautifully on Amazon.com -- all five-star reviews so far -- and it is the story I wanted to tell. Readers tell me they cannot put it down and had no idea about the ending. Most readers are looking forward to a sequel, which is in the works. One reader commented that fans of Patricia Cornwell and Sue Grafton need to add Barbara Fournier to their lists of must-read authors. I was overwhelmed.

I will always be thankful for you, Pauline, for believing in me. The building blocks for my foundation as an author began with you."

"Your skills as a writer and editor have been invaluable to my success as a published author. You have made the process of going from some scribbled thoughts to a finished manuscript not only manageable but enjoyable, too. I am always amazed at your ability to take my thoughts and ideas and turn them into an interesting read. I often feel guilty for receiving all the credit for your truly great work. And the proof is in the sales of my books, which continue to soar, and my publisher looking for additional editions and new books, as a result of your working with me. I feel very grateful to have been introduced to you.”

“Pauline stepped in as a ghostwriter when I most needed her on a deadline driven 1st edition book that needed a strong writer but also a sensitive one due to the circumstances. She was always professional and delivered a book that has since gone into revision due to its initial success. The project would not have happened without her.”

"I believe that everybody has a book inside them. In fact, I had written 25 pages of a book about the mechanics of prospecting, but I didn't know what to do next. Then I heard about the writing and editing services of Pauline Bartel of Bartel Communications, Inc., and I knew I had to talk to her about my book. Pauline turned out to be a great resource, so I hired her. Using my manuscript as a starting point, she organized my rambling thoughts into a coherent outline; presented what I wanted to say in a clear, concise style that actually sounded like me; and turned into reality my book, Generate New Business: A Practical Guide to Setting (and Getting!) Appointments.
Pauline was the perfect person for this project!"
