Overview
Hello! I'm a full-time freelance writer and editor, and I've helped many authors achieve their dream of publication, whether it be traditionally published or as an indie author. I work closely with authors at all stages of their writing careers, whether they're looking to traditionally publish, indie publish, or write simply for enjoyment.
My most satisfied clients have these things in common:
>>> bold writing
>>> not afraid to submit their work
>>> an insatiable urge to write
>>> embrace feedback and critique
>>> do not fear rejection
>>> love (or at least tolerate!) revision
>>> a love of story
I'm currently taking on new clients for these projects:
>>> editorial assessments
>>> copy/line editing
>>> proofreading
>>> formatting
A little about each of those:
EDITORIAL ASSESSMENTS can be a great alternative to a pricy, lengthy developmental edit IF you embrace getting feedback AND are keen to do your own revisions. This work (assessment or developmental editing) should be done before you do your copy/line editing.
COPY/LINE/PROOFING can be done in one pass and should be done after your story editing is pinned down (I'll always point out any developmental/story issues during this edit and work with you to sharpen the narrative).
COACHING can be the perfect way to drive your writing career forward—I like to mix monthly live/Zoom meetings with weekly emails around craft, motivation, accountability, and productivity. Coaching partnerships are 100% customized to fit you! (NOTE: I'm not taking on any additional coaching relationships until 2025 unless it's a perfect fit with genre, timing, and fit, or if you've been referred to me!).
FORMATTING is the last step to producing publication-ready files and getting your book out into the world! I use Vellum for formatting and have produced dozens of great-looking books. I work with you and your cover designer to ensure that all the pieces come together!
I especially like partnering with clients who need someone to answer their questions, and I love helping to propel an author's career well after my edits are done. I'll help you try to land an agent, navigate the world of indie publishing, and make your book visible to the world. After our work is done, I'll always be available for guidance when you need me. I will be an advocate for your book, not just someone you've paid to help make it excellent (but we WILL make it excellent!).
One final thing: the best part of my job is when I get to add a new client book to my Reedsy profile (and when I buy a client's published book and add it to my already-overflowing client bookshelf). I LOVE seeing my clients publish their work!
I'm honored to be part of your writing journey however I can. Thank you for trusting me with your work. And congratulations on getting this far with your project! — Dave P.
