Overview
I had worked 20 years as a professional writer and editor, well respected for my skills, when I walked into the classroom. It was then, working with students, that I truly learned the finer points of editing and proofreading. They were there to learn, and it was in responding to their work and their questions that I was able to look at the details -- the nuances -- of the words as well as the grammar and mechanics that I moved to the next level in my own understanding and work. Now 25 years since I began my master's studies and worked as a TA, I'm thankful for that gift.
