Pamela Strickland

Pamela Strickland – Editor

Copy editor who has worked as both a journalist and editor for 45 years with respect to both the author's voice and the reader's needs.

Overview

I am a retired communications professional fluent in Chicago Manual of Style seeking to return to the world of the written word with part-time copy editing and proofreading work. My preferred genre is nonfiction ranging from Memoir and Biography to History to Christian. I spent five years as a freelance copy editor for The University of Tennessee Press working on a wide range of subjects including an analysis of Cormac McCarthy's writing to an examination of politics across the Cumberland Plateau.

I had worked 20 years as a professional writer and editor, well respected for my skills, when I walked into the classroom. It was then, working with students, that I truly learned the finer points of editing and proofreading. They were there to learn, and it was in responding to their work and their questions that I was able to look at the details -- the nuances -- of the words as well as the grammar and mechanics that I moved to the next level in my own understanding and work. Now 25 years since I began my master's studies and worked as a TA, I'm thankful for that gift.
