Overview
Over the years, I have completed development edits, copy edits and proofreads for publishing houses, book packagers, authors who plan to self-publish, and authors who are going on submission to agents or traditional publishers. My favourite commercial fiction genres are romance, women’s fiction, crime and thriller, but I have a soft spot for literary fiction too. I am also interested in working on sports non-fiction, since I am a football, ice hockey and darts fanatic. I already have experience working in all these genres, so I understand each one well.
As well as having freelance experience, I also have over two years’ experience as an in-house Development Editor at an award-winning publisher, Sweet Cherry, where I took fifty-plus books through the editorial process as a lead editor. I worked on everything from picture books to YA fiction and gained invaluable knowledge of the industry. I would love to pass this knowledge on to aspiring authors so that you can make your book a success, no matter which publishing path you choose.
I also have a BA in Creative Writing and English Literature, and I completed the Introduction to Editorial Skills course at The Publishing Training Centre so that I could train Junior Editors at Sweet Cherry.
TESTIMONIALS:
‘Millie was my editor for a series of 20+ children's books, and her encouragement and enthusiasm made the process a dream. She worked hard to get facts and small details right while never losing sight of the bigger picture. She was always on hand to answer questions or communicate essential deadlines or feedback, too. I couldn't be prouder of the books, and Millie's committed, reliable and personable approach was a huge part of making them such a success.’

'Working with Millie was phenomenal. I was a bit nervous going into this project because I'd recently had a disappointing experience with another editor, but Millie exceeded my expectations and delivered exactly what I was looking for. She treated my manuscript with care and respect, showed genuine interest in the stories, and made insightful suggestions that truly enhanced the text. She provided detailed comments throughout, was incredibly thorough, and delivered on time. I'm so grateful that my book—translated from Spanish—will see the light of day thanks to her work. I'll absolutely be reaching out to her for future projects. And I can't wait. Thank you, Millie!'
