Overview

Book Design including covers and interiors, print and ebook design, for children and adults.

For over 20 years, I have worked with indie authors and publishers to design book covers that both fit in and stand out and interior page designs that enhance the message and flow with the cover design for a professional package that sells.

Cover Design:

You have a split second to capture someone’s attention with your book. The cover is the first thing people see, and if it is done well, they might open it or click to see more. This is where I come in. A successful cover must fit in with other books of the same genre so that it reaches your intended audience, but it should also have a unique design that attracts attention and stands out against the competition.

I don’t use templates because I want to give each unique book the attention it deserves. Every design is brand new and custom created. I research other books in your genre and target market and look at any competing books on the market before I begin. Then I combine what I learn with your vision for your book and come up with a few design concepts. You choose the one you feel is best for your book, with the option of making revisions. Once we have the front cover just right, I will design a coordinating back cover and spine. You will have the opportunity to proof this before I create final artwork, ready to upload to your printer.

Editorial/Interior Design and Formatting:

When a potential buyer opens your book to look inside, they should be drawn in and want to read more. Years of book design experience and knowledge of typography have taught me to create attractive pages that complement any topic in a compelling layout.

I will discuss your book thoroughly with you so I understand what you envision before I begin. I take into consideration your cover design if you have one, the genre, target audience, page count, and a myriad of other details to choose the colors, fonts, and layout that convey the perfect look and feel for your book, whether it is digital, paperback, or hard cover.

I begin with 1-3 design mockups that show unique options for chapter openings, headers, footers, and other graphic elements included in your book. Once you approve the design I lay out the book with your edited manuscript and send your page proof of the complete book. You will proofread it and let me know if anything has to be revised before I create your final pdf, tailored to the specifications of your chosen printer.

I can also create epub or pdf versions of your book for ibooks, kindle, or other digital outlets. Your ebook will be properly formatted to ensure a seamless reading experience, and include metadata for discoverability online.
