Michelle Aarons

Michelle Aarons – Editor

Experienced publishing professional to polish your words till they glow. Memoirs, dissertations, monographs, textbooks - all welcome

Overview

I have worked in the publishing industry my entire professional life, in roles from generalist education editor to senior product manager. I am comfortable with manuscript development, structural editing, copy editing, proofreading and project management. I am able to assist with memoir and autobiography, dissertations, academic monographs, and textbooks.

I am committed to clarity and plain language wherever possible. My editorial style is one that allows your voice to rule, not mine.

I will offer a quote and agree a time frame with you. I'll consult you throughout and won't over-promise, ensuring that our shared expectations are met.

Endorsements:

My most recent client, Dr Marc Mierowsky, DECRA Fellow, Uni of Melbourne, author of 'A Spy Amongst Us', has written:

“Michelle is that rare editor, one who does not impose their style but gets inside your prose and brings out its best. She is meticulous. She knows your manuscript at the level of the book and at the level of the sentence. She is supremely consultative. And because of her years in publishing, she can guide a nervous or first-time author through the entire process -- to ensure that the published version lives up to your expectations. I cannot imagine writing a book without her -- nor would I ever want to!”

A long-term client, Dr Graeme Friedman, has noted “Michelle has been my first-line reader and editor for several of my books, the latest of which has been 'What the Boy Hears When the Girl Dreams'. Her astute editorial eye, keen sense of narrative, and profound grasp of intention have been essential in helping my work find recognition on literary prize short- and long-lists.”

About me: My studies were in literature, my first love. My reading passion is for excellent contemporary fiction, especially that written by women. My favourite writer is Margaret Atwood. I don't have a favourite book because there are too many to choose from. I am based in Sydney, where I share my workspace with a feisty puppy known as the Great Licktator.
