Michele Lim

Michele Lim – Editor

Skilled copy editor and proofreader, specialising in non-fiction, self-improvement, and stories spotlighting underrepresented communities

Overview

I enjoy working with authors who are passionate about catalysing positive change through the sharing of knowledge and stories.

Blending technical editorial expertise with a strong dose of empathy, I meet clients where they are — whether they are experts in their fields looking to shape their findings into compelling narratives; new writers taking the bold step to share their life stories; or seasoned authors looking for a final polish.

I have worked with publishers based in the US, the UK, and Asia, and am well-versed in the gamut of editorial services: developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading. I also have an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction) from the University of East Anglia.

If you're looking for a versatile and thorough editor, drop me a message! :)

Most recent published projects include proofreading for Teo You Yenn's non-fiction title UNEASE (Ethos Books, 2026), and developmental and copy editing for Sharmini Aphrodite's lyrical / magical realist short story collection THE UNREPENTANT (Gaudy Boy, 2025).

Work experience

Self-employed

Sep, 2020 — Present
2020–2021: I began working on publications in the UK, as a shortlisting reader with Boiler House Press (poetry, literary fiction). I also edited and managed a short story anthology project with Egg Box Publishing. 2022–Present: I have gone on to work with independent literary publishers Gaudy Boy (US) and Ethos Books (Singapore), on a range of literary fiction (short story collections, novels) and non-fiction titles. I also did a stint as a full-time editor at Armour Publishing (Singapore), working on Christian non-fiction, educational material, children's literature and corporate publications.

National Arts Council Singapore

Jan, 2016 — Jun, 2020 (over 4 years)
As a policy writer and grant administrator, I worked closely with artists and playwrights on their project design and grant applications, with an eye on project viability within the Singapore audience landscape. I assessed and gave feedback on play scripts and anthologised publications.
