Work experience
Macmillan
At Macmillan, I work with all twelve of our imprints to share metadata marketing best practices, optimize metadata, and analyze the success of our metadata marketing strategies for frontlist and backlist titles alike.
To date, I've reviewed 500+ titles to ensure Macmillan's titles find the right readers at the right time using relevant and specific metadata.
Harper Collins
As an Online Optimization Manager, I supported two of Harper Collins' core imprints: Nelson Books and Zondervan Books, using metadata marketing to ensure our titles reach the right audience at the right time and increasing page views, conversion rate, and sales along the way.
Within my role, I supported frontlist and backlist marketing campaigns for key authors including Morgan Harper Nichols, Max Lucado, Lysa TerKeurst, Bob Goff, and many more. I also collaborated with Max Lucado's team to select book titles with SEO in mind.
Projects
Say Good Night to Insomnia metadata review
Say Good Night to Insomnia, published in 2009, had metadata that met best practices, but could be tweaked to find a whole new generation of readers.
By adding 15 relevant and specific keywords designed to reach readers interested in self care, healthy sleep habits, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as a new heath and fitness BISAC, this title saw a year-over-year increase in ordered revenue (18% increase), ordered units (33% increase), and traffic (15% increase).
The book has found a new audience with readers interested in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, maintaining its spot in the Amazon charts as well.
The Way of the Shepherd metadata review
The Way of the Shepherd, published in 2004, was a steady seller over the years, but its outdated metadata was holding it back from reaching its audience.
After writing a new consumer description that better aligns with Amazon's best practices, and adding relevant and specific BISACs and keywords, the title saw a year-over-year increase in revenue (45% increase) and ordered units (29% increase) across all formats.
Hidden Gem metadata review
Published in summer 2023, Linda Liu's book Hidden Gem already had great metadata, but newer reviews mentioned the title's benefit to kids' self esteem and the way it could be used for daily affirmations, which wasn't previously reflected in the metadata.
With updated keywords that mention social emotional learning and affirmations for kids, this title found a home with folks looking to add an encouraging, wholesome book they can reach for over and over again during story time. This title saw a 72% increase in sales and a 29% increase in traffic over the summer post-optimization.
In the Manger metadata review
In 2022, I reviewed the metadata for New York Times best-selling author Max Lucado's In the Manger devotional. I edited the consumer description to better align with Amazon's best practices (adding bolded text and bullet points) and created A+ content that tied together other gift books written by Max.
With new and more relevant keywords and BISACs, as well as a new consumer description and A+ content, this this title saw a 63% increase in page views and a 37% increase in sales year-over-year. Although the metadata was updated more than a year ago, this book has maintained its spot in relevant and specific categories on Amazon.
Alison Espach metadata review
To prepare for the release of Alison Espach's frontlist title, The Wedding People, I reviewed the metadata for both The Wedding People and her backlist title, Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance. By reviewing and optimizing the metadata for both titles, I was able to further tie the titles together and help readers discover more of Alison's work.
With optimized metadata, including new and reordered BISACs as well as new keywords, Alison's backlist title Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance saw a 300% increase in page views, a 580% increase in revenue, and a 544% increase in units sold over the course of 3 months. After some metadata shifts, this title is now easier to find than ever before.
With new keywords and BISACs, Alison's frontlist title The Wedding People was able to find (and importantly, maintain) a home within the dark humor and divorce fiction categories on Amazon.
