Overview
Hi, I'm Maisie, a freelance translator (German > English) with a degree in modern languages from the University of Oxford. Over almost two decades, I've translated more than 50 books, ranging from glossy coffee-table tomes and highly specialist art publications to deeply moving memoirs, including a recent Sunday Times bestseller. My clients range from world-famous museums and international publishing houses to boutique art presses. I love translating non-fiction in an engaging way and opening works up to a new readership in English. As a former travel books editor, I'm particularly fond of translating books that spark wanderlust or delight armchair travellers, whether it's a guide to an off-the-beaten-track destination, a new take on a popular hotspot or a travel tale that you've always dreamed of seeing in print.
I bring my professional background as a senior editor to bear on all my projects and offer fully edited and proofread translations.
Recent publications include Sunday Times bestseller A Gypsy in Auschwitz by Otto Rosenberg (Monoray), Boatlife: Exploring the Freedom of Maritime Living (gestalten) and Temples of Books: Magnificent Libraries around the World (gestalten).
I love collaborating with authors, so feel free to send me your manuscript in Word or PDF and your proposed deadline. I'll respond promptly with a full quote and confirmed deadline. I'm also happy to provide a short sample on request, so that you can get an idea of how the text will read in English. Simply let me know if you're happy with my approach or would like anything done differently. Once you give the go-ahead, I'll read the entire manuscript thoroughly and discuss with you any significant wording decisions at the outset, explaining the context and thinking behind each option. Throughout the translation process, I'll communicate with you promptly or at agreed intervals about any issues that crop up or any critical translation choices.
You can look forward to receiving your manuscript promptly and fully proofread, ready for English readers!
