Maddie Spalding

Maddie Spalding – Editor

I worked in the book publishing industry for more than six years. I edited more than 80 nonfiction children's books and wrote 51 such books.

Overview

I am a conscientious editor with extensive experience in editing children's nonfiction books. I have worked for various companies in the book publishing industry, including Beaver's Pond Press, Lerner Publishing Group, and Red Line Editorial. I have edited children's books on a variety of topics. These topics include history, biography, geography, health, current events and issues, and science-related topics. I also have an undergraduate degree in psychology and am studying to become a counselor, so I have some background knowledge on mental health topics. I can adeptly explain complex topics for a young audience. When doing a developmental edit, I make sure the tone and reading level are suitable for the target audience. I always do research on a book's topic during a developmental edit to ensure that my feedback is helpful and well-informed. Additionally, I have knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and APA Style. I also have freelance and in-house copy editing, proofreading, and indexing experience. I would bring these experiences and skills to each of my editorial projects.
