Overview
I am an experienced Editor with a demonstrated history of working in the Children's education publishing industry. I specialise in working with texts for young people and young voices, whether it's poetry or an educational text or an animation. I have worked on WordSparks, Oxford Reading Buddy and BCK series. I am currently working for a university and am adept at digital and academic editing too!
I would love to work with you on your text, whether it be developing your story, ironing out the little snags or a general proofread. I'm interested in the shaping of your text whilst maintaining creative integrity and vision of the author. Being an editor is truly a collaborative process and I embrace this style of working.
Testimonial from former colleague:
Lok Yee is a thorough and considerate editor, and works efficiently and thoughtfully for her authors. She has great understanding of technical editorial points such as grammar and style guides, as well as fantastic instincts and experience working on structure and development editing. Lok Yee is a brilliant all rounder - she can turn her hand to anything, all the while respecting the importance of the author's style.

Oxford University Press
As an editor in the Primary Literacy Team, I have worked across digital and print projects. I have proof-read and edited digital e-books and quizzes as well as handled the metadata for these assets. I am responsible for books in a 104 large print project, this includes liaising with authors and freelancers, working to schedules and managing the synopses tracker.
I have worked on digital e-books and audio recording, schedules and proof listening.
Cambridge University Press
In this role I assisted the ELT Primary team in the development of engaging print and digital material for young learners around the world.
I had editorial responsibilities in a number of key components of a range of young learner products including digital classroom presentation software. This included animations, songs, online games, audio scripts and interactive online textbooks.
I also researched appropriate photos and illustrators for the products.
I attended the Syndicate meeting where I experienced the board's discussion of academic journals.
First Story
First Story brings talented, professional writers into secondary schools serving low-income communities to work with teachers and students to foster creativity and communication skills.
I act as a shadow writer and with the poet, run poetry workshops at Nottingham Academy. We aim to encourage young people in their creative writing by discussing spoken word poetry and through engaging activities. I am responsible for editorial processes when the poetry anthology is published in the following year.
I also volunteered at the First Story Regional Writing day at the University of Nottingham.
John Blake Publishing
During my time at John Blake Publishing, I relished my time in an office which was primarily focused on editorial and commissioning in publishing. The editors gave me responsibilities in writing reports on book submissions, implementing editorial changes into typescripts and copyediting. Alongside this I carried out general administrative tasks such as answering the phones, franking the post and greeting guests who had arrived for meetings.
The Mic Magazine
As the editor of The Mic Magazine, I oversaw the day to day running of the website. I copyedited and formatted articles (including collecting press photos and forming tweets) before they are published on the website. Together, as a team, we published three printed editions of our magazine which developed my team working skills. I also liaised with PR companies and contributors to organise gigs and live reviews of my own. I am was involved in a collaboration with UNICEF in organising a charity event.
