Lil Copan – Editor

Editor of award-winning books in religion, spirituality, personal development, justice, creativity, and the arts

Overview

Working with writers, my aim is to provide thoughtful author care and coaching throughout the editing process. It’s an essential part of my work and what authors find so valuable. Throughout the process of editing, I see the work as collaborative. And as every writer has different needs, I work with each writer to ensure that the approach to editing meets their communications needs as well as works to meet the goals of a given book project.

I provide clear feedback for your revision process. And if you get stuck, I offer prompts and ideas for your own creative process.

For over 20 years I've worked in acquisitions and developmental editing with a wide range of writers--from helping beginning writers find their voice to working with best-selling authors on their next books, I’m both guide and coach for the journey. When authors I work with garner awards or find an enthusiastic reader base, it’s especially gratifying.

I help writers hone ideas, develop pitches, and clarify their goals related to a book’s structure, development, and audience. We’ll unpack what’s needed to make your book the best it can be, together. And then build out a plan and schedule for the book development or revision. Wherever you are on your writing journey, we can develop next steps, next chapters, and a solid plan to get you closer to your goal.

Book publishing – finding a publisher or finding a literary agent – can be daunting. But I try to demystify the process so you can focus on creating the best proposal, best manuscript, best pitch.
