Lance Buckley – Designer

Former Amazon/KDP book designer with over 12 years of experience working with independent authors and publishers.

Overview

I have a passion for designing book covers.

I spent 8 years as a Design Account Specialist with CreateSpace and Kindle Direct Publishing and doing a lot of freelance work on the side. I’ve worked with authors big and small in all kinds of different genres!

My time with CreateSpace and Kindle Direct Publishing helped me gain a ton of experience with the process of bringing a cover design to print while gaining a deeper understanding of emerging book cover design trends. Whether you’re a seasoned author or about to self-publish your first book, I can assure you that I will do my best to make sure your book not only looks great but is also highly marketable.

Before I became a graphic designer, I studied Strategic Communication and Marketing at Ohio State. My first passion was marketing and advertising but after working in the advertising industry on the account management and messaging side, I quickly realized that I actually felt more “at home” on the creative side.

That’s when I decided to spend the next few years honing my design skills by taking on all kinds of different design work. I had always been a creative and artistic kid, so the challenges I faced were more technical in nature. This experience gave me a much better understanding of what grabs people’s attention and moves them to make a purchase.

Lance did a fantastic job on my cover. He always exceeds my expectations. He was a few days late completing the cover due to some personal things, but he more than made up for it with the quality of the design. If I could, I would hire Lance for every book I write. He is very congenial and nice to work with, and he never disappoints with his designs. He gets busy because he is so good at what ...

It was a pleasure working with Lance. He is very creative and exceeded my expectations with my book cover. I absolutely love it. People have told me they want to read the book just based on the cover. He was also very congenial and polite to work with. I would love to do another book with him, in fact I have asked him to do the cover of my next book. I am excited that he is going to do it. I hi...

Lance produced an outstanding cover—it was not what I expected at all. He thought outside the box to produce a unique, eye-catching design that I am so proud of, and he kept to the brief. Everyone who has seen it was impressed by its originality. The only downside to the collaboration was communication, but given what he has produced, I can forgive him for that. Lance is a very talented cov...
