Overview

Hi, there! As a senior marketing strategist for a hybrid publisher the past four years, I have led nearly 80 book/author campaigns from early brand development through post-publication.

My passion is working together with ambitious authors to help outline goals, identify marketing strategies and tactics to meet those goals, and assist with digital campaigns on Amazon and Bookbub.

My authors have described me as smart, innovative, effective, efficient, and fun.

Projects

Grace & Frankie - Amazon Advertising

Not all book projects have huge budgets - but that doesn't mean they can't be successful. For Grace + Frankie (humor, Flashpoint Books), I ran Amazon advertising during the online chatter about the final season of the popular TV show of the same name.
The Amazon ads were super targeted, and resulted in a nearly 300% ROI, and a nearly 10% conversion rate!

Breaking Point Series - Marketing Strategy & Pricing Promotions

Breaking Point is a popular WWII historical fiction series from author John Rhodes. I developed the marketing plan and worked with the author's existing team of website, email, and social media marketers to execute the tactics for the series.
The most successful tactic for series sales is pricing promotions on BookBub (New Releases for Less), Bargain Booksy and other e-book deal venues, along with social media advertising. These result in #1 in category on Amazon, and increase sales tenfold.
The Breaking Point Series has won six literary awards. The author is writing the fifth book in the series.

Broken - Advertising & Marketing Strategy

Developed the marketing plan, created the title "Broken," and executed the advertising campaigns for this true crime debut by Fred M. Kray.
More than 5,000 copies sold and borrowed in the first 90 days.
Kirkus Reviews chose Broken as one of their "Best Indie Books of 2023."
Broken received the Amazon #1 New Release in its category at launch and is #3 in its top category after more than 6 months.
Amazon advertising has resulted in a 400% ROI.
Secured a Featured Deal on BookBub within three months of publishing.
Chirp audiobook ads have resulted in a spike in audiobook sales, with the audiobook #3 and #4 in target Audible categories.

Author testimonial:
"Their true talent was immediately evident:  taking a new look at a book I had lived with for four years and bringing a new perspective and new approach to the work. Their selection of the title was brilliant, creating a hook that would bring in a greater audience. Well before publication, they provided demographic and specific information to reach the right audience and continued to do so throughout and after publication. They provided ideas and images for social media that I would have never thought of and were highly effective. The quality, look, and feel of my book is equal to that of any book put out by a Big Five publisher."

The Everyday Athlete - Marketing Strategy

Developed the launch strategy for The Everyday Athlete. The book secured the coveted #1 New Release banner on Amazon and remained #1 in target categories for several months. The book is a powerful sales tool for the author's consultation business.

Author testimonial:
"Katie did a fantastic job at helping me with my book launch, The Everyday Athlete. She knows the book industry incredibly well and helped me navigate through all of the nuances of marketing a book. I appreciated her insights and analysis that helped shape the marketing strategy. In short, she has great vision backed up by solid data...something I appreciated! Katie's definitely someone you want to have your book launch team. Last but not least, she's super nice, very professional, and easy to work with."

Safe, Wanted, and Loved - Marketing Strategy and Advertising

Developed and executed audiobook campaign for Safe, Wanted, and Loved. The audiobook was a finalist in the 2023 Audie Awards for Best Audiobook-Autobiography/Memoir (the only non-celebrity, independent audiobook). Ads were placed in AudioFile Magazine (Earphones Awards Winner) and on Chirp.
I also developed the marketing plan for the launch of the other book editions.
Safe, Wanted, and Loved has won eight literary awards.

Author testimonial:
"I’ve been working with Katie for two years now, and I would highly recommend her to anyone needing a marketing specialist; she is smart, efficient, and effective. I met Katie when I engaged to help in developing and publishing my memoir. She was assigned to be my marketing lead. I was immediately struck by how knowledgeable she was about the book business. She created a successful go-to-market strategy and was instrumental in positioning my book for launch. After publication, she helped the book gain exposure through several targeted campaigns and award submissions. Even with a limited budget, Katie delivered impressive results. Given our success with the printed version, I re-engaged Katie for the launch of the audiobook version. She has been just as effective with that, having run several campaigns while experimenting with various creative approaches. Most importantly, her hard work resulted in the audiobook winning an Earphones Award from AudioFile Magazine."

Remembering Shanghai - Amazon Advertising

Responsible for multi-year Amazon ad campaign creation, execution and optimization for Remembering Shanghai (memoir, Girl Friday Books). The campaign has sustained a nearly 200% ROI, even with a decreased ad budget in 2023, the book remains in the top 10% of books in relevant categories, with more than 1,100 reviews.

Katie is a joy to work with. My book's content is well outside of the normal stuff; it's about training your psychic abilities and enjoying the process. Katie's marketing vocabulary is way outside of my normal conversations. And yet, she has found ways to bridge the gaps in my knowledge with her professionalism and enthusiasm. She corrects me in the most useful ways, and it turns out that I nee...

Since I was a complete novice, Katie had to work hard. Just getting ready to begin the project required a lot of computer work on her end. In addition, she was always able to answer my numerous questions. I really appreciate her help because I could not have done this without her!

Katie is a delight to work with. The personalized work she did on developing my target market, comp books and cover design guidance was invaluable. She also provided excellent detailed suggestions for steps to take in the run-up to publication and after to help me build my audience/newsletter subscribers that will help build my author business not only for my debut novel, but also over the long...
