Overview

I’ve been fortunate enough to work in the children’s book industry for over fifteen years and have experience on all sides of both the creative process and the business of books.

My experience as an author allows me to be sensitive to the story behind the book and to appreciate the work you’ve put in. (Blood, sweat, and typos!)
My experience as an editor means I will work tirelessly to polish your manuscript into the perfectly publishable book you know it can be. (My specialty is developmental editing but I will never let a book go out into the world with a missing serial comma!)
My experience as an acquisitions editor shows that I can review thousands (truly, thousands) of submissions each year and have developed the eye of an art dealer in a thrift store. I know when a manuscript has value and when to throw my dollar on the counter and run away with a fortunate find.
All my experience has lead me to become the editorial director for Silver Dolphin Books, which publishes over one hundred quality children’s books each year. My craft is creating books that sell—everything from board books to picture books to middle grade fiction.

I’m happy to guide you and your book (no matter what shape it’s in!) through the entire publishing process. You’ve got an idea, and a start on a manuscript...I’m here to get you to that amazing moment when you hold your finished book in your hand. It’s an unreal experience—let’s get you there!

I was blown away by Kate's Editorial Assessment. Not only was it super helpful specific to my own manuscript, but it was incredibly valuable in helping me gain a high level understanding of traditional versus self-publishing. Her competitive analysis was super insightful and helpful in seeing the books that would be comparable. She specifically called out the strengths in my manuscript as well ...

Kate was wonderful to work with. She was very communicative and responsive, and thoughtful and encouraging in her feedback and suggestions. I felt lucky to have her eyes on my work and to have her invested in helping make my manuscript stronger. I learned a lot in our project and hope to work with Kate again soon!

Kate was fantastic. She was reasonably priced, gave great feedback, and was very quick to return the fully edited document. I plan to use her for future projects.

Kate’s encouraging developmental edit was most helpful in sparking ideas for me to streamline my children’s picture manuscript. Her thoughtful and on point suggestions helped motivate the changes that I needed to make. With Kate’s prescient comments and ideas, I was able to bring my manuscript to the next level. Additionally, comps she came up will help me with my query letter. Kate’s comps...
