Kate Lockwood – Editor

Current associate publisher at Silver Dolphin Children's Books. 17+ years of experience. Five-star book coach from concept to publication!

Overview

I’ve been fortunate enough to work in the children’s book industry for over seventeen years and have experience on all sides of the creative process and the business of books. All of my time in publishing has lead me to become the associate publisher and editorial director for Silver Dolphin Books, which publishes over one hundred quality children’s books each year, NYT best-selling series included. My craft is creating books that sell—everything from board books to picture books to middle grade fiction.

My experience as an author allows me to be sensitive to the story behind the book and to appreciate the work you’ve put in. (Blood, sweat, and typos!)

My experience as an editor means I will work tirelessly to polish your manuscript into the perfectly publishable book you know it can be. (My specialty is developmental editing but I will never let a book go out into the world missing a serial comma!)

My experience as an acquisitions editor shows that I can review thousands (truly, thousands) of submissions each year and have developed the eye of an art dealer in a thrift store. I know when a manuscript has value and when to throw my dollar on the counter and run away with a fortunate find.

I’m happy to guide you and your book (no matter what shape it’s in!) through the entire publishing process. You’ve got an idea, and a start on a manuscript...I’m here to get you to that amazing moment when you hold your finished book in your hand. It’s an unreal experience—let’s get you there!

She educated me on rhyming, rhyme schemes. She did a clear editorial assessment and help me without deadline until we finished (took us more than half a year). We made a great team. She helped me to create something I am proud of ...

Kate has been instrumental in helping me to continue to shape my story. I am excited that I have the chance to continue working with her. She really helped to flush out some important details to help round out the story. The responses she provided gave me the confidence to move forward.

If I could give Kate 10 stars for each one of the line items above I would! She is a pleasure to work with, a great coach/ cheerleader who provides excellent feedback. I worked with her for almost four months to get my manuscript in a place that I wanted it to be. I appreciate all of her help and support along the way.
